Finding Synchronicities in the Seemingly Disparate: In Conversation with Nina Simons

What an enlightening conversation I was lucky enough to have with author and Bioneers Co-Founder Nina Simons! Being able to discuss our connection to nature, embracing feminine energy, and aligning with activism helped me personally find and reaffirm the important connections between these different, but not so distant, subjects.

Beginning our conversation, I was pleasantly surprised to learn the many ways that me and Nina’s backgrounds overlap and align. Our similar backgrounds in theater and performance reminded me of the powerful connection to the world around us that all artistic modalities provide. Personally, when I am performing, I am able to tap into the universal humanity that surrounds us all. Not only do the arts serve to connect the artist to the world around them, but the art itself can help us all connect to the broader world when we engage with art and creativity. Nina’s personal work, within the arts and the spiritual realms, focuses on metaphysical realities, but has the unique quality of always returning to the physical world and how we can apply these teachings in our daily lives. Asking metaphysical questions, and finding the answers that ring true for us, are important to consider to inform our behavior, but without applying these considerations our work remains in our heads and never makes the journey to our bodies and our full lives.

Nina’s book mirrors this approach by providing plenty of information to consider and chew on, but is always followed up with exercises and practical applications that can take the cognitive analysis into practical application. Marrying our, typically thought of dichotomous, cognition with physicality, we can better achieve development, self growth, and coherent living. Coherence is all about considering deep questions, but then living in accordance with your own personal answers, so as you merge these two aspects you can better align with who you are, and who you are becoming.

Nina’s discussion of combining modalities was also insightful for me. She describes herself as a “systems maven” and prides herself on using a multitude of different practices to better enhance her spiritual practice. Combining modalities, and finding the synchronicities between them, is a further way to embrace coherence in our daily lives. The more we can incorporate seemingly disparate aspects into alignment with the way we are choosing to live, the more powerfully aligned we become with our highest self and higher purpose.
